"As part of the Sunrise Quality Promise, we pride ourselves in offering our residents a safe, secure and comfortable home that continues to support seniors’ independence"

MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sunrise Senior Living’s newest community will open its doors in Burlingame, California, on June 29. Located in the San Francisco area, Sunrise of Burlingame joins 40 other Sunrise communities throughout the state. It will offer assisted living as well as leading-edge memory care programming and services for those with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of memory loss.

“As part of the Sunrise Quality Promise, we pride ourselves in offering our residents a safe, secure and comfortable home that continues to support seniors’ independence,” said Jeff Slichta, senior vice president of Operations for Sunrise. “What makes the biggest difference in Sunrise are our team members, who are dedicated and trained to provide the very best in personalized care.”

“The demand for senior care continues to rise both nationally and in the Bay Area. This phenomenal location, combined with our more than 30 years of experience delivering high- quality care, make Sunrise of Burlingame the resident choice for local seniors,” said Chris Winkle, Sunrise’s chief executive officer. “We look forward to continuing to grow and develop communities that provide a best-in-class experience.”

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that about 22 percent of California’s population will be over 60 years old by the year 2030 – a 34 percent increase from 2012. Nationally, an estimated 5.3 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. Ten years from now, the organization projects that number to reach 7.1 million for people aged 65 and older.

The new four-story, 65,000-square-foot community on Trousdale Drive is located near a pedestrian-friendly shopping area with easy access to restaurants and nearby health care facilities. Sunrise of Burlingame is specially designed to complement the surrounding neighborhood’s style and architecture, down to the lush and regionally specific landscaping.

The approximately 80-unit building, with a resident capacity of 97, will allow for flexible and adaptable spaces to support Sunrise’s full range of meaningful programming and activities to enrich residents’ mind, body and spirit. Specifically, there will be space for a Sunrise Terrace Club Neighborhood, which provides tailored programming for seniors experiencing the early stages of memory loss. A unique offering among senior living providers in the San Francisco peninsula, the Terrace Club program enables residents with early stages of memory loss to continue to thrive.

Additional features include Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the building for residents and families to enjoy and stay connected, electronic health record systems designed to support Sunrise’s resident-centered approach to care, artwork by local artists and interior design elements to support seniors’ mobility needs.

The community is expected to generate approximately 85 local area jobs, with team members to manage the well-designed community and provide daily services and care, unique activities and programs and fresh, home-made meals – all part of the Sunrise Signature Experience.

Sunrise of Burlingame will host an open house on Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Those in the area are invited to meet the team, take a tour and learn more about life at Sunrise.

Sunrise is expected to open a new community in Dublin, Ohio, in August and Sunrise at Palos Verdes in the Los Angeles area next year. For continuing information about Sunrise communities and senior-related topics, follow us on Facebook and read The Sunrise Blog.
