Old Town Alexandria senior living community construction is underway.

Most of the walls have come down on the building that that formerly housed the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents in Old Town Alexandria.

Demolition is well underway on the large complex at the intersection of North Washington and Princess streets. Sunrise Senior Living is building a planned community on the site — a 93-room assisted living facility.

Sunrise Senior Living is based in McLean. The company has another facility in Alexandria, at 3520 Duke St. just west of the intersection of Duke Street and Quaker Lane. The architect for the new complex is Rust | Orling Architecture, which has an office on Cameron Street in Alexandria.

Sunrise Senior Living, in a statement on its Alexandria development website, said, "This community will provide a supportive environment in a convenient location for surrounding families who want to be near their aging loved ones."

The new address for the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) is 415 and 419 N. Lee St. Founded in 1931, PIA is a national trade association that represents member insurance agents and their employees who sell and service all kinds of insurance, but specialize in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses.
